Information technology plays an even more important role in the age of digitalisation. Innovation without IT is unimaginable. But it is not just technology itself, but also how it is delivered that matters. The SAP basis sees itself as a partner and contact for new SAP technologies. There is no way around containers, and even SAP will soon have to reorient itself here and allow the NetWeaver stack to be run in containers. There are many indications that Kubernetes will win the battle for supremacy among container management tools. SAP has also already invested in Gardener and is also intensifying its partnerships with IBM and Red Hat Openshift.
In the past, when we deployed SAP environments, we first had to work out a detailed sizing and architecture and pass it on to the procurement team, which then ordered the systems and installed them in the data center. From there, it went on to the network team, the storage team, the operating system team, and the database team. So it was not uncommon for three to six months to pass between the architecture design and the installation of a new SAP system.

This is partly because the solutions are already known in advance and the necessary knowledge exists or is already planned.
SAP Basis refers to the administration of SAP system that includes activities like installation and configuration, load balancing, and performance of SAP applications running on Java stack and SAP ABAP.
