The SAP Basis Plug-In is backward compatible and follows the release and maintenance strategy of the SAP R/3 Plug-In. SAP ships it together with the SAP R/3 Plug-In.
SAP Basis is also known as module BC or application Basis. In this regard, SAP Basis refers to all transactions, programs and objects that control the functions of the overall system. This includes, among other things, user and authorization management as well as the configuration of interfaces via RFC.
From installation to ongoing support
Regular maintenance tasks or the standard procedures must be described and defined to build checklists based on them and to control compliance with this standard. The SAPSolution-Manager can also support this as a tool of SAP e.g. through the Guided Procedures. In this context, it is also necessary to document the functionality of an underlying application and thereby determine what testing and monitoring activities are necessary. This is a reconciliation process between the SAP basis, other IT departments and, if necessary, the business areas concerned. The defined standard and the system's IST situation must be fully documented and regularly checked for compliance. This can be done through automated monitoring, validation using tools such as SAP-LVM (Landscape Virtualisation Management) or SAP Solution Manager, as well as manual checklists. Only the regular review of the standards guarantees their compliance. It can also support the regular use of SAP services such as Go-live Checks or Early Watch. Examples of how to standardise procedures are listed here: ・ Naming of system instances and logical hosts, or at least one central registry in a directory service, or LVM or SAP customer portal ・ Centrally starting and stopping systems, such as via the LVM ・ Categorising SAP instances by T-shirt size to define profile standards and cost them.
If a company chooses to tackle the area of e-learning itself and also to create the content for it itself, there is a certain challenge. The most obvious point here is that the above-mentioned initial effort is borne by the company. This means that employees spend their time creating videos, preparing presentations and/or creating questionnaires. This not to be underestimated effort must of course be borne by the company initially. On the other hand, a self-created e-learning offer offers the possibility to design it completely by itself and tailor it to the company's own needs. In addition, a company can decide whether it will use the e-learning offer itself only for its own employees (for internal training purposes) or whether it will also present the offer externally. This can be used, for example, for advertising purposes, as a know-how presentation or as a further source of income. Use the external sources: This is a very pleasant way for the company to improve the internal processes through ELearning. By acquiring external e-learning content, the company can purchase valuable know-how for comparatively low money. This know-how is in most cases already well prepared, that this can only be passed on to the employees and they can then independently acquire new knowledge or consolidate already known topics.
