Conclusion and outlook
Due to the variety of tasks and the high level of complexity, I find my job extremely exciting. There are very many constellations of SAP systems and databases. Each installation, migration and update brings new aspects and challenges. It is precisely these challenges that are important to me, so that I can continue to learn and develop professionally on a daily basis.
The digitization of businesses and the emergence of new technologies mean that admins have to adapt to constantly changing conditions. Currently, the following trends (which are becoming more and more evident in the market) can be mentioned:
OS/400
The SAP Basis is responsible for the smooth operation of the programmes in the SAP system. It acts as an operating system for R/3 and subsequent releases including S/4HANA. Each operating system provides an environment in which programmes can run, such as MS Office on Microsoft Windows. Likewise, the SAP base system with the NetWeaver and HANA platform offers an environment in which the SAP programmes can run. In this context, the NetWeaver platform itself relies on server operating systems such as Windows and Linux.
In order to cope with the digital transformation in general, but also to cope with the changing demands on the SAP basis and its scope of responsibility, it is necessary to revise existing roles and define and establish new roles. These include the roles of the technology architect, new features of the Subject Matter Expert (SME), and the role of the Expert Team Lead in leading a group of experts. With "Shortcut for SAP Systems" a tool is available that greatly facilitates some tasks in the SAP basis.
CONSTRUCTION OF A TEST LABORATORY In addition to resources, it is also necessary to create the framework conditions for the implementation of the research and pilot projects.

Strategically, completely self-hosted SAP systems are becoming rarer and the proportion of customers using an SAP system from the cloud is increasing.
