Correct settings of the essential parameters
In this article, I show you with which transaction you can easily and quickly run the authorization trace in SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA. The displayed result provides a good overview of the involved authorizations. In this course, existing roles and profiles in authorization management (transaction PFCG) can be extended. In addition, the authorization trace is useful for maintaining authorization default values (transactions SU22 and SU24).

In such a case the last error is displayed in SU53 or the display is empty. Then you can't avoid analyzing the error message of the transaction. One more tip in the end: Instruct the user to take the screen shot with , this will put the whole active window on the clipboard and you can see which transaction, system and context of the transaction it is. The security check also shows when no redesign is necessary because the authorizations found are compatible with the current concept. The checks allow incorrect authorizations to be identified and rectified without a redesign.

For performance reasons, the SAP kernel checks whether a user is authorised in the permission buffer. However, only profiles and no roles are loaded into the permission buffer. Calling the SU56 transaction will cause you to parse the permission buffer, first displaying your own user's permission buffer. A pop-up window to change the user or authorization object will appear from the Other User/Permissions Object (F5) menu path. Here you can select the user you want to analyse in the corresponding field. The Permissions > Reset User Buffer path allows you to reload the permission buffer for the displayed user.

However, if your Identity Management system is currently not available or the approval path is interrupted, you can still assign urgently needed authorizations with "Shortcut for SAP systems".

Over the individual Buttons one can switch directly the Trace on or off and display the result of the Trace.

You can also find some useful tips from practice on the subject of SAP authorizations on the page www.sap-corner.de.

The advantage of this feature is that administrators can parse failed permission checks regardless of end users.
